Employees at one of the country’s most influential environmental groups will find out in the coming weeks whether they’ll keep their jobs, the organization told its staff Thursday.
Leaders of the Environmental Defense Fund told employees this week that they plan to announce any news about possible staff cuts by April 1, when the group’s new scaled-back budget takes effect, according to an email sent to staff Thursday and obtained by E&E News.
The organization’s new budget is 11 percent lower than its last, says the email from EDF President Fred Krupp and Executive Director Amanda Leland. They don’t yet know “what size any necessary resulting staff cuts will be,” they wrote.
Employees at the organization have been “pretty disappointed” as they await news about possible layoffs, said one EDF employee who was granted anonymity to discuss internal operations.
